PATRIOTIC COMMISSION

REGULAR MEETING

February 20, 2013

 
A quorum being present, Chairperson Margaret Byrnes called the regular meeting of the Patriotic Commission to order at 7: 20 P.M. in the second floor conference room in the Town Hall , followed by the
Pledge of Allegiance.

 
PRESENT : Margaret Byrnes, Paul Barry, Bernard Corona, Vincent Parys, Susan Tukey, Melodie Wilson.

EXCUSED : Charles Clark

ABSENT : Patricia Begley, Linda Carrasquillo, Edward Dettore, Eugene Pushefski, Sr., Joan Barbara Ross.

ALSO PRESENT : Robin E. Parys, Clerk.

OPPORTUNITY FOR CITIZENS/RESIDENTS TO SPEAK :

None.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES : Commissioner Vincent Parys motioned for approval of January 16, 2013 minutes as is, 2nd By Commissioner Paul Barry

Motion : Approved

Correspondence : Chairperson Margaret Byrnes presented to the Commission a Certificate of Appreciation and a Thank You Letter from the CT Veterans Fund Parade Coordinator for our participation and support of the 2011 Veterans Day Parade .

BILLS : Office Supplies
Motion : Approved

TREASURER'S REPORT: Chairperson Margaret Byrnes informed the Commission that the 2012-2013 budget is now $11,435.00.

 UNFINISHED/OLD/ BUSINESS: Chairperson Margaret Byrnes will do a follow up with the Mayor requesting a meeting regarding the Commissions inquiry to rename Bicentennial Square . An official letter of invitation will be sent to the Mayor requesting her presence at the Veterans Commission meeting on March 4, 2013 or the Patriotic Commission meeting on March 20, 2013 at the town Council Chambers,

ALL COMMISSION Members are strongly urged to ATTEND.

 Chairperson Byrnes advised the Commission that she has contacted the Director of the Park & Rec. Dept. and he agreed to handle all the Holiday Fest Food Drive Pickups and deliver them to the Food Banks.

BIG RELIEF, BIG THANKS to the Park Dept.

Motion: Approved

NEW BUSINESS: Commissioner Bernie Corona brought in a catalog that had portable radios that may be suitable for the Memorial Day Parade use the radios were $20.67 each we would need 7 radios to function efficiently during the parade lineup. A motion was made by Vinny

Parys and 2nd by Bernie Corona to purchase the radios and the total amount not to exceed $200.00 if they were still available.

Commissioner Vinny Parys asked Chairperson Byrnes to use her influence to find out why we do not have the American flag flying at all the Town cemeteries instead of just the two main ones.

Chairperson Byrnes will check into this matter.

Motion: Approved
